GSM and SMS communication for the Siemens VDO Dayton in car navigation system
A vehicle with a VDO navigation system makes it easier for a driver to concentrate on driving.  

The system:

  •   Plans the route to the specified destination
  •   Calculates estimated time of arrival
  •   Provides a mapped overview of the
          vehicle’s location as it moves toward the destination

Mount a special programmed Falcom GSM modem in the vehicle to make a reliable communications link between the VDO system and the dispatcher.

ProGSM required the VDO CCI firmware is installed in the VDO Dayton Pro 5100 computer

 
Find out where the vehicles are either ffrom the dispatcher’s PC or from a  GSM telephone. All communications are shown as plain SMS text. Dispatcher functions:
  •   Send new destinations
  •   Send important messages to the drivers
  •   Reuest the vehicle’s location and expected time of arrival.

 
Install a Falcom Swing in the dispatcher’s center for communication  between the  VDO navigation system in the vehicle and the office.
In vehicle:
  • uView the vehicles current position on screen
  • uView the distance to destination and expected time of arrival on screen
  • uInput new destination and the VDO screen will show the optimal route
  • uSMS communication between office and the vehicle, using the VDO screen as display
  • uAll messages are shown on the VDO screen
From Dispatcher’s PC:
  • uSend new destinations to the drivers
  • uSend important messages to the drivers
  • uRequest the vehicle’s location and expected time of arrival
  • uGPRS ready

 

 Applications:
Together with the ProGSM SPS can offer additional software solutions to be used on the customers PC in the office. 


Mapping application:
Together with the SPSCOM and Fugawi mapping software it is possible to have an inexpensive mapping system to follow the vehicles on a map. It is also possible to send and receive SMS to the vehicle.
ProGate
SMS Gateway
With the ProGate SMS gateway the customer can still see the positions on the Fugawi Mapping software. In addition there is a complete SMS gateway package included. It is also possible to generate report of the vehicles movements and when it started and stopped. ProGate is developed by Pro-Sat and further information can be found on www.pro-sat.dk (Danish only)
